El Calafate es una ciudad ubicada en la ribera meridional del lago Argentino, en la región de la Patagonia, en la provincia de Santa Cruz a unos 80 km del glaciar Perito Moreno. Es la cabecera del departamento Lago Argentino.
El Calafate es una de las tres principales ciudades de la provincia de Santa Cruz ubicándose en tercer lugar por su población, detrás de las ciudades de Río Gallegos y Caleta Olivia.
Se encuentra a unos 320 km al noroeste de la capital provincial, Río Gallegos, debe su notoriedad por ser la puerta de acceso al Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, el cual posee atractivos turísticos como el glaciar Perito Moreno, el glaciar Upsala, y el cerro Fitz Roy), entre otros, todos propios de la región oriental del Campo de hielo Patagónico Sur y parque Nacional Torres del Paine, en Chile.

El Calafate superó nuevamente una marca en relación a su principal industria: el turismo. Este año el incremento fue notorio, registrándose más visitas al Parque Nacional Los Glaciares y más personas hospedadas en los hoteles de la localidad.

El Parque Nacional Los Glaciares está ubicado en el sudoeste de la provincia de Santa Cruz, posee una superficie de 726.927 hectáreas y fue creado para preservar una extensa área de hielos continentales y glaciares, del bosque andino-patagónico austral y muestras de la estepa patagónica. Es el más extenso del Sistema Nacional de Áreas Protegidas Argentinas.

Desde el Puerto de Punta Bandera, a 47 km de El Calafate, iniciamos la navegación por el Brazo Norte del Lago Argentino. Atravesamos la Boca del Diablo con destino al Canal Upsala y para navegar entre los grandes témpanos que se desprenden del frente del Glaciar Upsala.

Luego ingresamos al Canal Spegazzini y momentos después tendremos la primera vista del Glaciar Seco. Continuamos navegando hasta el frente del Glaciar Spegazzini donde también contemplaremos los glaciares Heim Sur y Peineta. Nos preparamos para desembarcar en La Base Spegazzini y comenzamos la visita al área caminando a través del sendero del bosque hasta el Refugio Spegazzini (próximo a inaugurarse). Este sendero de 300 metros es accesible y al recorrerlo nos detenemos en estaciones y miradores con vistas a toda la Bahía de Los Glaciares. En el Refugio podemos almorzar, visitar el shop o contemplar el paisaje. Para aquellos que les gusta caminar, pueden tomar el sendero de la montaña. Este recorrido es un trekking de media dificultad a través de un camino boscoso, con miradores naturales, lleno de vistas increíbles que finaliza en el punto de desembarco.

Refugio Spegazzini
El Refugio Spegazzini cuenta con el Salón Principal emplazado con dirección al frente del lago y su extenso ventanal nos brinda una vista panorámica inigualable del Glaciar Spegazzini. Esun espacio muy luminoso y de gran amplitud con 280 metros cuadrados de planta. Su capacidad máxima de comensales sentados es de 300 y en cóctel es de 400. Se puede modular el salón de acuerdo a la configuración de la planta requerida. Desde aquí tenemos acceso al Deck Principal de 120 metros cuadrados. El Salón Captain's Club cuenta con vistas privilegiadas al Glaciar Spegazzini y al Glaciar Heim. Su cálida decoración lo presentan como un espacio amigable para compartir y relajarse. Este salón tiene 80 nmetros cuadrados y conecta a La Terraza de 75 metros cuadrados.
Los visitantes pueden optar por llevar su vianda o comprar en el market del refugio, el cual cuenta con una variada oferta disponible para aquellos que desean disfrutar sin llevar consigo los alimentos desde El Calafate. También encontrarán un shop donde podrán comprar artículos de viaje y souvenirs para regalar al volver a casa.

Then we enter the Spegazzini Canal and moments later we will have the first view of the Dry Glacier. We continue sailing to the front of the Spegazzini Glacier where we will also contemplate the Heim Sur and Peineta glaciers. We prepare to disembark at Spegazzini Base and begin the visit to the area by walking along the forest trail to the Spegazzini Refuge (next to opening). This 300-meter trail is accessible and as we walk it we stop at stations and viewpoints overlooking the entire Bay of Los Glaciares. In the Refuge we can have lunch, visit the shop or contemplate the landscape. For those who like to walk, they can take the mountain path. This tour is a trekking of half difficulty through a wooded path, with natural viewpoints, full of incredible views that ends at the landing point.

Spegazzini Shelter
The Spegazzini Refuge has the Main Hall located facing the front of the lake and its large window gives us an unrivalled panoramic view of the Spegazzini Glacier. It is a very bright and spacious space with 280 square meters of floor. Its maximum capacity of seated diners is 300 and in cocktail is 400. The living room can be modulated according to the required floor configuration. From here we have access to the Main Deck of 120 square meters. Captain's Club Lounge offers privileged views of Spegazzini Glacier and Heim Glacier. Its warm décor is presented as a friendly space to share and relax. This living room has 80 square meters and connects to The Terrace of 75 square meters.
Visitors can choose to bring their way or shop at the shelter market, which has a varied offer available for those who want to enjoy without taking food with them from El Calafate. You will also find a shop where you can buy travel items and souvenirs to give away when you return home.
