Humahuaca is the head city of the department of the same name, in Argentina's Jujuy province.
It is located east of RN 9 NORTH OF CERRO VERDE, at 3012 meters above sea level, is organized with a municipality and different neighborhood centers and until the end of the nineteenth century was one of the most important colonial shopping centers of the old road to Upper Peru.
It highlights its narrow and cobbled streets, worthy of walking, with its low adobe houses preserving its historical physiognomy.

Over 10,000 years, this Andean valley has been the scene of much of the cultural developments of the region and neighboring countries of South America, on an uninterrupted journey ranging from the installation of the first hunter villages, about ten millennia ago, to the present day. In this sense, the Humahuaca Quebrada has functioned as a permanent route of interaction, longitudinal and transversal, linking distant and different territories and cultures, from the Atlantic to the Pacific and from the Andes to the southern plains.

The Quebrada de Humahuaca constitutes, as a true system, a cultural itinerary of extensive historical journey that has significantly influenced the development and cultural configuration of its own space, giving rise to a rich syncretism that, with its own personality, is reflected in its material heritage testimonies and other values of intangible character.
All these elements allow to give this context a strong meaning for a plural reading of history and universal culture.
In 2003 the Humahuaca Quebrada was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Category Cultural Landscape.
